Rant #22 – Peace out.

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Commentary, Rants

We are so used to watching the hero and villain duke it out on screen and cheering for CSK vs RCB on twitter that we have developed no other means of conflict resolution whatsoever. We are so used to being just the audience to performances that we view even war through the same goggles. The movie ends, the match gets over and the participants and the audience return to their normal lives. War is no movie and we are no mere audience in this scenario.

2030 Poetry#17 – Glass panes.

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Attempts at poetry, Rants

I did not notice the fish tank in the background until much later when I was going through the photos we took that night and this was inadvertently caught in one corner. The absurdity initially did make me chuckle as I thought to myself what the fish must feel like stuck behind a glass pane and having to watch other dead fish day in and day out. Is it sad? Is it glad that no one’s killed it yet? However, the current scene in India with the back and forth strikes at the Line of control and the whole country praising war through memes on social media (So much 21st century in one sentence, amirite?), it got me thinking – We are all that fish silently watching other fish die from behind glass panes we so conveniently carry in our palms.

Rant #21 – Church and State.

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Commentary, Rants

The question of whether God exists – if there is a supreme consciousness behind the cosmos – primarily belongs to the collective realm of human thought and is in no way exclusive to religion. Early man looking at the stars, modern physicists working on the unified field theory and your best friend with their eyes closed right before taking an exam are all, in one way or the other, trying to figure out God. One uses thought and inquisition, or philosophy, one uses sequential logic and tangible data, or science and one uses faith and will, or religion. There are countless such ways to ponder over this very fundamental question of what was there before everything and man vehemently continues to do so using every tool at his disposal with philosophy, religion and science being the most prominent. At least, most men are. The pioneers of religion – one of the most subjective of these tools, seem extremely content with their answers in spite of having multiple contradicting theories and have deemed this search complete. They seem to be quite impatient people who do not want to wait for the others to catch up but rather want them to quit their pursuits as well since after all, the answer is already here. While God may or may not exist, organised religion most definitely does. Making things worse, it’s infiltrating the ranks of government and things are not going so well.

Rant#20 – I’d like to weigh in on this…

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Commentary, Rants

Don’t tell people, “You’re not fat, you’re beautiful.” Fat isn’t the opposite of beautiful, it’s the opposite of healthy. Fat here means large deposits of fatty tissue over and between muscles and along the walls of blood vessels, you know? the thing it was supposed to mean. Not people who wish their waistline was just an inch smaller.

Rant#19 – The dark science rises.

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Commentary, Rants

Back in the day, pioneers like Copernicus and Galileo faced opposition for their stand on science from both men of religion, who were worried it was disagreeing with their God and men of science, who were more loyal to their predecessors and had a difficult time adjusting to their worldview being toppled over. These people denied science because their trust was placed elsewhere. Today’s scientists face a different kind of deniers, those whose trust lies only in distrusting science itself.

Rant #14 – Ambition Confusion

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Rants

That sounds like a Big Bang Theory episode title, doesn’t it? Not intentional. This rant is for me. No formality or deliberate jokes, no sense of logic to the flow and lots of memes. I might as well write the whole thing in italics. Feel free to skip this one, unless you are in your early 20s, recently or just graduated and utterly terrified about real life.

Rant #13 – Why is Beautiful?

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Rants, Travel logs

The dumbest, yet funniest joke of Infinity war was Drax very proudly having the last word in the argument – “I’ll do you one better. Why is Gamora?” He did give me an interesting thought though. Ofttimes answering what, when, where and who is very easy, for they are objective and usually end the conversation but ‘why’ is special. The answers it brings out are truly unique and can carry the conversation into places you never knew it belonged to. Like Drax’s ‘why’ leading to this very rant. Who knows where this’ll end up in? Not me. Not right now.

Rant#10 – The Equality bandwagon

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Commentary, Rants

The thought came as I was sitting in an exam hall, for an exam that would decide if I make it into one of the many esteemed engineering institutions in India for post graduation. In that exam hall, there were thirty of us, and out of that thirty, three were women.

Rant #7 – Doth thou even lift, brother ?

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Rants

The mind, much like the men it controls, always gives precedence to pain that bleeds out than that which seeps in. You could be starving yourself and staying curled in your bed for days at a stretch and you’re mostly likely to develop anxiety too on the side of freshly baked depression. The mind leaves you to your misery, much like that lone weeping girl on the stairs everyone cautiously walks around not to intrude her bubble. The instant you slide a knife under the skin or perhaps break an arm, beta endorphins are sent rushing to the rescue filling you with that blissful pleasant relief, much like all the people you see crowded around the smashed-in car desperately calling for the emergency services. That’s precisely why you have so many people  walking around pulling down the long sleeves of their jackets nervously trying to veil the horrors that lie beneath.

Captain’s Log 01082016 – Change, Pain and them random blues.

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Captain's Log

Change comes neither easy nor alone. If it were so the case, all the gyms in the world would be full and everyone would be rocking a guitar, considering the number of New years that have gone by since the tradition of making New year’s resolution began. Willing yourself into making any kind of substantial change simply because the world has aged another year isn’t an easy task, for “change for change’s sake” is an extremely unappealing concept.

Rant#5 – Pokèmon No!

July 2016

My Facebook feed has looked more or less the exact same for the past 10 days and it is driving me crazy.

What used to be a grand assortment of cheesy TinyTales, embarrassing selfies of friends, superhero news, soulful poetry and most importantly, Cyanide & Happiness’ gloriously dark memes, is now either about 20 year olds trying to be 12 or one 65 year old that the people of this state are convinced hasn’t aged a day beyond 25. (Not going to discuss the latter because I fear for my life.)
