2131 Poetry#19 – Who’s happy ?

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in Attempts at poetry, Commentary, Rants

Who’s happy?
The optimist is overfed on disappointment,
no outcome’s ever up to the mark of his imagination.
The pessimist walks away with his coin still in the air,
the odds are fifty-fifty, but who’s got time to care?
The realist is drenched in sweat for he knows he can never really know,
until the result is out but by then what’s the point anymore.

~ Transcript ~

I watched you grow, on land, by my side.
With sand for feet, the sea for eyes, you’d say –
“As soon as I’m whole, I’ll conquer the tide.”
Lips curved with yours, neck nodded along,
Hands cradling the knot that held you at bay.

In a blink, you were ready, whole and taut.
Sails blew full, oars kissed the sea.
I whispered a prayer, let go your knot –
“Wary of the whirls, wary of the winds.”
“I know daddy, now please let me be?”

Can’t follow you through. Not made for that.
Rockaway my little boat. I’ll watch you roam.
Storm the ocean, plant your flag.
In case of need, those times of rotten luck,
Look above, I burn just to guide you home.

Love,
Papa.

To the house that was never built,

Had my eyes set fifty years to the morrow –
How the sun would dance on the front porch,
To the crooked treehouse in the backyard.
Cut the strongest of wood,
Called the bravest of men.
Seventeen weeks of drawing up plans,
set on canvas, set foot on the ground.
But I did not know the ground would shake.
How could I know the ground would shake?

  1. Winning is cool, but finishing in itself is a worthy achievement. Most people don’t get to do that, willingly or otherwise. You get a medal ’cause you made it to the end.

Rant #14 – Ambition Confusion

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Rants

That sounds like a Big Bang Theory episode title, doesn’t it? Not intentional. This rant is for me. No formality or deliberate jokes, no sense of logic to the flow and lots of memes. I might as well write the whole thing in italics. Feel free to skip this one, unless you are in your early 20s, recently or just graduated and utterly terrified about real life.

Rant #13 – Why is Beautiful?

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Rants, Travel logs

The dumbest, yet funniest joke of Infinity war was Drax very proudly having the last word in the argument – “I’ll do you one better. Why is Gamora?” He did give me an interesting thought though. Ofttimes answering what, when, where and who is very easy, for they are objective and usually end the conversation but ‘why’ is special. The answers it brings out are truly unique and can carry the conversation into places you never knew it belonged to. Like Drax’s ‘why’ leading to this very rant. Who knows where this’ll end up in? Not me. Not right now.

When the remains of a falling star catch my eye,
When I wake up one morning needing no more sleep,
When the soup is delivered just goldilocks-fine,
When my popcorn gets its own empty seat,
When the deadlines too hit the snooze button,
When heavy rains pause my minute hand.

Day three was my off day. A couple of my batchmates had their personal interviews but otherwise, I had nothing set for the day. A day of having nothing to do isn’t as fun when you’re removed from everything that normally kept you entertained.

Stuck. Lost.
All but me speed on in a blur.
Looped. Dazed.
Where you see straight, I see a curve.

Why do you smile?

When was the last time you smiled? The time before that? Were they for similar reasons? Well I hope they weren’t or its going to ruin the whole point I’m trying to drive home here. Just go with, will you ?

Captain’s Log 01082016 – Change, Pain and them random blues.

Change comes neither easy nor alone. If it were so the case, all the gyms in the world would be full and everyone would be rocking a guitar, considering the number of New years that have gone by since the tradition of making New year’s resolution began. Willing yourself into making any kind of substantial change simply because the world has aged another year isn’t an easy task, for “change for change’s sake” is an extremely unappealing concept.
